Chiropractic Care For Asthma

Asthma is a very real physical disorder. It can be brought on by common substances in the environment such as flowers, insecticides, certain foods, animal dander, fragrances, dust, mold, etc. These irritants stimulate the nerves controlling the breathing apparatus and cut back the flow of air. Bands of muscle tighten making the airway smaller, swelling and extra mucus also causes plugs to form and further blocks the passageways. Early warning signs include: coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, chest pain, feeling tired, itchy or sore throat, watery eyes and fast heart rate. A person suffering from asthma should immediately have a through chiropractic examination. Due to chiropractic care, many asthma victims are living normal, abundant lives, free at last of the misery of the disease. It is not as well known that the cause of asthma can be related to a misalignment or subluxation of the spine. This can cause the bodies defense system to weaken and the nerves responsible for regulating breathing to not function as well as they could in order to fight off the irritants.
In a recent study, children with asthma showed an overall improvement in the lung capacity after only 8 chiropractic adjustments. There is ample research documenting the intimate connection between the spinal column, the nervous system and the respiratory system. Subluxations in the neck and upper back can produce muscle spasms which cause restriction and stasis of the lymphatic draining. As a result the body is unable to wash out bacteria and the person becomes more likely to get sick or weak.
One study in paticular followed the lives of 115 families with children aged 0-7 years suffering from asthma, diabetes, allergies and epilepsy. This study indicated that subluxations cause abnormal body function which causes sickness and disease. Your chiropractor may be the best doctor to help you and your family improve overall health and wellness and prevent you from becoming sick in the future.
